This plant is often found by the side of footpaths near the coast. It is taller than other varieties of mallow, but is the most common type of mallow found on the island.

This plant is used in herbal medicine for sprains and burns and is also thought to have been used as an alternative to toilet paper.

Its Manx name is "Malley ard".
