This flower is found in the Curraghs and at Scarlett Point, but it is rarely seen outside of those areas. Older records show that this plant was once much more common on the island. It likely declined due to land being drained for agriculture.

Bogbean was considered to have powerful medicinal properties, and was used to treat rheumatism.
