This plant is highly poisonous and is particularly dangerous because it is easily confused with edible members of the same family. This plant is common on the island and even small amounts can cause severe poisoning so foragers should take particular care to avoid it.

Hemlock Water-dropwort prefers damp soil and often grows in large patches near water.

The Manx name for this plant is "Daaue bane", which means "White water-dropwort".
