This plant is common all over the island and can be seen on banks and in grassy areas. It can be hard to distinguish from other plants with similar 'umbel' flowers.

The plant's 'nut' is an edible tuber that grows underground. They are known by many other names, including earthnut, groundnut and kippernut.

The Manx name for this plant is "Curlan".
