This tree is native to a small area in southeastern Europe and was introduced to the British Isles in 1612. It is common in parks and gardens and easily identified both by its striking flowers and its famous shiny fruits known as 'conkers'. Horse chestnut trees can grow up to 35 metres tall.
The Manx name for this tree is "Billey cro-cabbyl".
