Prickly Saltwort is common on the sandy beaches in the north of the island and familiar to anyone who has walked barefoot on the sand!

This plant is on of several that have been referred to as "glasswort" because they were once burned to make soda ash that is used in glassmaking. Its Manx name is "Lus y tollan", which means "Plant of salt".
