This plant grows in salty ground near the sea.

Greater Sea Spurrey is very similar in appearance to Lesser Sea Spurrey and Rock Sea Spurrey. The difference is that Greater Sea Spurrey's petals are longer than its sepals and its flowers can have up to 10 stamens, while Lesser Sea Spurrey never has more than 7. Rock Sea Spurrey's petals are the same length as its sepals and have 10 stamens.

When the tide covers this plant, its petals close to form an air bubble which protects the flower.
