Larger than Lesser Hop Trefoil, this species is easily confused with Black Medick, but does not produce Black Medick's distinctive black seed pods.

This plant is also known as Field Clover and is one of many plants that have been referred to as "Shamrock". Its Manx name is "Shamragh vuigh vooar", which means "large yellow shamrock".
