Also known as Deer Fern, these common native ferns can be found in shady places throughout the island.
Hard ferns are evergreen plants and can be seen throughout the year, although their older leaves become darker in colour and are replaced with bright green young leaves in the spring. They are very hardy and can survive at temperatures as low as -20C!
