Often found floating on water, this common pondweed favours acidic, peaty areas. It can be found in many ponds and wet places, including the Curraghs, the ponds at Conrhenny and the Calf of Man.

The literal Manx name for this plant is "Lus-lhingey yn voglee", but it has several other Manx names including "Bossan pherkin", which means "Dolphin wort".
