This common plant can be found almost anywhere and is used in many herbal teas and remedies. Several varieties of plantain can be found on the island, but this is the most common.

Plantains are edible, including the leaves, flower heads and seeds and have been eaten by humans since prehistoric times.

Confusingly, some plants in the Musa genus (including the banana) are also named "plantain", but they are completely unrelated to this plant, which is in the Plantago genus.
